What is IUI Treatment?

How is IUI Treatment Done?

Before the procedure, you'll get medicines to help eggs mature. The best time for the procedure is during ovulation.

Timing of IUI Treatment

Choosing the right time is very important for the IUI procedure. It's best to do it in the early hours of ovulation, usually 24 to 36 hours after it begins. This is because once an egg is released, it stays viable for about 24 hours. You can track ovulation using ovulation kits, which tell you when you're in your ovulation period.

Success Rates of IUI Treatment

Combining fertility drugs with cycles increased pregnancy rates to about 8 to 17 percent when considering a single cycle. Success rates vary based on a couple's age and the cause of infertility when looking at multiple cycles.

In a study involving 1000 IUI cycles, success depended on age and infertility cause. The highest success, 55.6 percent, was for cervical factor infertility, while the lowest, 10.7 percent per cycle, was for endometriosis. In cases of unexplained fertility, only 4 percent of women conceived without fertility drugs.

 

Cost of IUI Treatment

In the UAE, a standard IUI fertility treatment costs around AED 3284. However, prices differ in various countries and clinics. Comparatively, IVF is more expensive, with an initial cycle priced at about AED 70,000. Despite the cost difference, IUI is considered easier and more affordable than IVF.

 

Post Procedure and Expectations

After a successful IUI procedure, progesterone may be prescribed and blood tests conducted to monitor hormone levels. A pregnancy test is usually performed about 14 days after the procedure. If unsuccessful, repeating the IUI procedure for three to six months is advised for improved chances of pregnancy.

This stage can be exciting and sometimes stressful. The expectations and excitement can overwhelm the couple if not managed well. After a successful IUI, the doctor may prescribe progesterone, usually taken as a vaginal suppository.

Around a week after IUI, blood tests are done to monitor hormone levels like progesterone, estrogen, and sometimes hCG.
